Of the total cases in Norte de Santander, 18 correspond to minors. Regarding adults, 43 injured people were recorded, compared to 31 the previous year, which represents an increase of 38.7%.
Regarding the severity of the burns, the results indicate that 61% are first degree, while 34% correspond to second degree burns and 4.9% to third degree burns.

Regarding the circumstances in which the injuries occur, 62.3% of the cases occurred during the direct handling of gunpowder; 29.5% corresponded to people who acted as observers, and 8.2% arose from other causes.
«Currently, there is no support required to treat burns of more than 25% of the body mass. We hope that the people of Norte Santander will have more responsibility this year and will not burn gunpowder. “We have transferred patients to Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Medellín and Montería, where there are burn pavilions,” said the director of the Departmental Health Institute.
Likewise, he pointed out that, despite these calls for responsibility, it is feared that by December 31, due to the burning of the old year, the number of people burned will increase.
