A total of 23,764,297 kilos of drugs were seized by security agencies between January 1 and June 13. The figure is contained in a balance prepared by the National Anti-drug Superintendence (Sunad) to which we had access. This represents an increase in seizures of 6.66% compared to the same period last year.
The report specifies that the 23.7 tons of drugs were seized through 5,981 procedures carried out throughout Venezuela and neighboring international waters. In these operations, 7,685 people were arrested.
The bulk of the amount of drugs was seized in Zulia (53.26%), Monagas (12.36%), Aguas Internacionales (8.74%), Sucre (7.27%) and Falcón (6.27%). , according to the balance of the Sunad.
One of the procedures carried out in this first semester was executed in the Guanipa farm (100 hectares) located in the Guarapiche Forest Reserve, La Pica, Monagas state. There they discovered a logistics center for drug trafficking from Venezuela to the Caribbean islands.
A report released by General Elio Estrada Paredes, director of the Bolivarian National Police, states that on the site there was “a camp that served as the reception, distribution, and manufacturing of semi-submersible vessels.”
Estrada Paredes said that in said farm they seized 3 kilos of cocaine base paste, 5 US-made 5.56mm caliber rifles with 1,085 cartridges of the same caliber, 1 satellite internet antenna and 2 communication base stations. Agents of the PNB and the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) participated in this operation.
And on May 20, military agents detained at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, located in Maiquetía (La Guaira), 46 people, including 19 soldiers, presumably members of a network destined to send drugs from that air terminal. There they seized 15 panelas of cocaine, according to the Special Anti-drug Unit 45.
