Political parties add up. Eight months before the general elections in Bolivia take place, the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) reported that there are 12 national political parties who are fully qualified to intervene for the presidential chair.

Of course, this number does not take into account the ‘first-time’ non-traditional regional leaders who in recent days came out before the media to confirm their participation in the elections, through the creation of political groups. An analyst considers that there has been a phenomenon of seeing more acronyms than candidates and that the emerging pre-candidates should seduce the electorate with the route, proposal and binomial as done by the current president of Argentina, Javier Milei.

The vice president of the TSE, Francisco Vargas, informed EL DEBER that the dozen political forces have their current legal status which can mediate the application of candidatesalthough two other organizations are also visible that are in the race to meet the requirements demanded by the Electoral Body to be qualified.

This is the Autonomía Para Bolivia Súmate party (APB- Súmate), in which the figure is the mayor of Cochabamba. Manfred Reyes Villawhich is located in a conversion process after delivering the collected signatures at the national level. Added to this is the organization called the National Renewal Movement (Morena), led by the mayor of El Alto. Eva Cupwhich is in the process of construction and gathering of required signatures.

“If they manage to comply with the required signatures, we would have 14 political parties that could present candidates for the presidency, vice presidency, deputies or senators,” he told this newspaper.

Between the 12 national organizations that are enabled are: Nationalist Democratic Action (ADN); Revolutionary Nationalist Movement (MNR); Front for Victory (FPV); Christian Democratic Party (PDC); Party of Bolivian National Action (PAN-BOL); Movement Towards Socialism Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the People (MAS-IPSP); Left Revolutionary Front (FRI); Movement Third System (MTS); Democrats; Solidarity Civic Unit (UCS); National Unity (UN); and New Patriotic Generation (NGP).

Of this number, both ADN and the PDC have received two warnings by the Plenary Chamber in the event of non-compliance with the militancy update and the update of the directive. In the case of the MAS, he received a reprimand for not updating the directive, something that was already corrected after the presidency of Gróver García It was recognized by the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP) and ratified by the TSE.

“The Supreme Electoral Court will define until December 20 to issue sanctions to those who do not comply with the resolutions that are not punitive or coercive. The Electoral Body began to verify, through technical teams, that the parties hold democratic elections and incorporate women into their structures,” Vargas stated.

‘First-time’ leaders

The last two weeks of December were quite eventful in the political arena after at least three personalities decided to make their pre-candidacy official.

one of them was the former prosecutor of Santa Cruz, Jaime Solizwho in the heart of the capital of Santa Cruz and accompanied by a band, announced his intention to participate in the August 2025 elections with the group Unidad Nacional de Territorios (UNITE).

The jurist assured that if he becomes president, the next day he will order the militarization in the Tropics of Cochabambato establish the presence of the State in the fight against drugs. Likewise, he said that he will seek the release of opposition leaders such as Luis Fernando Camacho, Marco Pumari and former president Jeanine Áñez.

In the same way, the rector of the Uagrm, Vicente Cuellaralso made his candidacy official on Monday night with the opening of his campaign house in the capital of Santa Cruz. While in the city of El Alto, the CC senator, Rodrigo Paz Pereira, who is leader of the Primero la Gente organization, participated in a meeting political. The legislator, who was received with garlands, proposed at the event an “equitable distribution” of national income between the State and the regions: the 50/50 formula to benefit regions.

“Convincing the electorate”, the challenge for emerging leaders

The political analyst, Paúl Coca, said that it is striking that There are more candidates for president than there are current acronymsHe also considered that between December and January there will be more presidential candidates.

“It is not understood, and it must be noted that it is not easy to make a political acronym. Many of these virtual candidates have their own strategies and will seek to appear in surveys to negotiate a position or position. This has a background and it is the caudillo mentality,” he stated.
