There are 10 times that the leader of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), Evo Morales, attacked the government of President Luis Arce. Analysts believe that the struggle within the ruling party is becoming more evident and that the head of the party went on the attack to curb internal criticism.
The questions raised by the former president are detailed below.
1) In April 2021, Morales accused of being “anti-evists” those who spoke of “dezo” to elect candidates in the subnational elections and that these militants aligned themselves with government officials. 2) That same month, Morales maintained that some Executive authorities “promote anti-Evismo” and speak of renewal.
3) The ex-governor in December, after an expansion of the MAS in Cochabamba, suggested adjustments in the Cabinet and criticized Arce’s technical ministers. 4) In January, the Masista leader described the so-called Choquehuanca bloc as a “big mistake”.
5) After the arrest of former anti-narcotics chief Maximiliano Dávila, on February 24, during the anniversary of the Six Federations of the Tropics of Cochabamaba, the former president asserted that he fears being involved with drug trafficking and presumed the possibility that “some colleagues” from the Government they want to implicate him.
6) That same day, Morales accused the Vice Minister of Justice, César Siles, of freeing his ex-partner Gabriela Zapata, the day the “march for the homeland” arrived in La Paz. 7) In that same event, the former president claimed Arce because there were still “detained comrades” who mobilized against the “coup.”
8) In March, the former president complained about the quality of Entel’s service in the tropics. “I have a lot of complaints,” he said. 9) After it became known that the Constitutional Court determined compensation in his favor for being disqualified in 2020 as a candidate for senator, he revealed in March that when they left him out of the electoral race, they celebrated in his party and again charged Siles. 10) On Monday, the head of the blue acronym publicly denounced that at least four anti-narcotics colonels cover up drug trafficking in the tropics.
Evo goes on the attack
The political scientist Franklin Pareja stated that Morales began to attack the administration of the Government. This is because President Arce “realized late that he is the president”, and because the leader of the MAS “is addicted to power”, who does not assimilate that he is outside the government and that he no longer commands.
“The authoritarian character of Morales has meant that there are critical voices within the MAS and that they have lost respect for him. Morales has entered desperation and has gone from defensive to attack, he realizes that he no longer influences the government, and in the face of that he attacks and strong, “he said.
Couple pointed out that the former president does not have a direct answer from the Executive. However, they carry out actions such as the operation at the “La Cruceña” airfield and in the face of this only the “parliamentary representation of the MAS del Chapare comes to their defense.”
Political analyst Ludwin Valverde pointed out that the image of the head of the ruling party is deteriorating. This leads him to attack and for him to be on the defensive against the voices that demand renewal.
“Evo is suspicious of David Choquehuanca because he is gaining space within the MAS, this is not the case with Arce because he does not have the political ability to become a MAS driver. Within the MAS an internal adjustment takes place. The internal struggle aims to lacerate the image of the Government”, he emphasized.
Angélica Ponce, former leader of intercultural women, stated that Morales wants to destabilize Arce’s administration. She added that this will not be allowed by the social organizations of the so-called process of change.
“Evo Morales makes a media controversy to wear down and destabilize brother Arce. The audios of him were already contaminated and should first have been presented to the Prosecutor’s Office. I think (Evo) is making a mistake by making controversy through the media,” he said.
Deputy Héctor Arce, from MAS, assured that Morales’ complaints are to improve the management and image of the Government. He pointed out that from the ruling party there will be no cover-up of any irregular event.
“We are never going to protect corruption and criminals. We are obliged to denounce and as a political organization clean up these events that harm the Government at home (…). Neither can one speak of an electoral struggle; for the elections there are still years to go, in 2024 there will only be talk of candidacies, now is not the time, ”he added.
