“I hope to be here next year with the victory of the 23 states and at least 300 mayoralties, a big goal, we are going for the big one,” said President Nicolás Maduro on August 19.
He leader Nicolás Maduro said that the opposition has paid some artists to express their rejection of his administration on social media. According to the president, many of them, as well as “influencers,” are threatened and victims of hate campaigns on social media.
“They should decide if they want to continue making their careers, first of all, with their families in Venezuela. They use them, pay them and then abandon them,” warned the president on August 19, during a meeting with leaders of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and organizations that make up the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP).
Maduro proposed creating a “three-ring” system of forces to confront the “threats” that the opposition is seeking, he said, to impose. The first of these, he explained, is for the PSUV and the Patriotic Pole to go to each “town” in the country. He added that the second ring is to consolidate the popular movements, the social and union sectors, while the third block is the “cultural and economic alliances.”
He stressed that traditional parties have been replaced by the “hegemony of a single voice.” According to Maduro, this seeks to demobilize the population and generate fear.
“It’s good what happened because we managed to get them to take out everything they had. This is a great lesson: they have replaced the parties, there are no more political leaders; now the hegemony of a single voice prevails, which imposes itself through its hatred and influencers,” he said.
He accused the dissidents of “threatening” thousands of student leaders, street leaders, spokespersons for communal councils and CLAP leaders.
Using the OAS
On the other hand, Maduro said that the United States (US) uses the Organization of American States (OAS) to “attack” Venezuela.
“They are using Luis Almagro and the OAS again, but we are familiar with that story and it does not work with Venezuela,” said the president, while deploring the position of the OAS in relation to the elections of July 28 and the repressive acts of the following days.
For this reason, he criticized opposition leader María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia for allegedly trying to create outbreaks of violence in the country. He accused them of using intimidation tactics against citizens.
He said that González Urrutia does not appear “anywhere” and that she is hiding from justice. He also asserted that Machado has been “abandoned” by her voters.
The president also referred to opposition leaders and political parties, who in his opinion “enjoy the humiliation suffered by the Unitary Platform.” “It is sad to see how their political careers have ended, humiliated by fascism,” he said.
Maduro dreams of having all the governorships
He referred to the consultation that will take place next weekend and that will aim to materialize social projects that communities require.
“We must make every effort to ensure that everything turns out as it did in the last electoral events. We will receive the guidelines for this new stage directly. The right continues to repeat the same script that continues to be active with violence. They tried on July 29 and have been trying in the calls they make, but they are not successful thanks to the coordinated work that has been devastating against these attempts at violence,” he said.
During his speech, he added that the PSUV must review all the states and what each organization did to continue to attract support for the project he leads.
“I hope to be here next year with the victory of the 23 states and at least 300 mayoralties, a big goal, we are going for the big one,” he added.
He reiterated the call for the installation, debate and resolutions of the Congress of All Venezuela on October 18, 19 and 20, “to make the action agenda for 2031 and I ask the political collective for concrete proposals for that agenda.”
