What began as a rest trip ended in tragedy for a Cali family. In June 2025, Álvaro José Flores, 31, traveled from Cali to Cartagena with the intention of enjoying a few days in the capital of Bolívar. However, that would be the last trip of his life.

At the time, local media reported that his death had occurred in the midst of an alleged robbery. However, eight months later, his family insists that this version does not convince them and that there are inconsistencies that would point to a possible murder.

Álvaro José’s sister assures that they have collected evidence through the young man’s cell phone that contradicts the initial hypothesis. According to his testimony, his brother’s belongings—including his jewelry—were never stolen and, on the contrary, they would have been delivered in full to the person who accompanied him.

“It really wasn’t a robbery, it was a murder. Supposedly they say it was for stealing his chains, but they never rob him. Even those jewelry were given to her at the clinic,” he said in statements delivered to TuBarco.

According to the family, the last time Álvaro was seen alive was in a security video when he was leaving the hotel where he was staying with who would be his romantic partner. In the images, according to what they say, they are seen arguing.

The woman would have indicated that a person approached to steal it and that in the middle of the incident the homicide occurred. However, the family questions this version because, they say, no valuable items disappeared.

Chats and banking transactions in the spotlight

Another element that causes concern is a chat that, according to the sister, they found on Álvaro’s cell phone. In the conversation, the woman who accompanied him would have expressed the need to withdraw money from the young man’s bank account before his death was officially known and the funds were frozen.

Furthermore, after the incident, the woman returned to the hotel to remove Álvaro José’s belongings. Since then, the family claims to be unclear about the whereabouts of some personal items.

They also mention that the first respondent in the case would witness that all the belongings were delivered to the companion, which reinforces their doubt about the theft hypothesis.

Eight months without answers

The young man’s parents traveled to Cartagena to learn details of the investigation carried out by the Attorney General’s Office. However, they report that, despite the time that has passed, they have not received concrete information or evidence of significant progress.

According to the family, there would even be a record on security cameras in a shopping center where the person who committed the crime could be observed. That information, they say, was mentioned in a news program, but until now there has been no official statement on the subject.

“We really want to know what happened. Don’t just assume that it was a robbery if there are indications that it could have been something premeditated,” said his sister.

Beyond the versions found, the family of Álvaro José Flores insists that the only thing they are looking for is clarity. In the midst of pain, they ask that the authorities deepen the investigation and determine if it was really a robbery or a planned homicide.

Eight months after the tragedy, the uncertainty remains as great as the void left by his death.
