With the approval by a large majority in the Chamber of Deputies of the modification of article 48 of Law 24,449, which dictates the limit of zero alcohol in blood for the driving of all types of vehicles in the country, now, said bill will be dealt with in the Upper House (Senate of the Nation).
This Thursday, December 1, the senators of the Infrastructure, Housing and Transportation Commission, which is in charge of María Teresa Gonzáles from Formosa, expressed a positive opinion for the bill of zero alcohol at the wheel. If it obtains half a sanction in Senators, it will become law and will apply to the entire Argentine territory.
Among those present, when the Transportation senators were running, were the executive director of the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV), Pablo Martínez Carignano, and also the president of the Estrellas Amarillas Foundation, Silvia Gonzáles (mother of a fatal victim due to a traffic accident caused by a drunk driver), both promoters of the law of zero alcohol.
The azero alcohol behind the wheel is already implemented in 12 of the country’s provinces and also in 40 cities, such as Mar del Plata and Posadas. According to Carignano, every year 4,000 people die in our country due to traffic accidents, and he highlighted that in one in four of these accidents there is a presence of alcohol in the drivers’ blood.
Carignano explained: “This is not a dry law, it is not that we are against the consumption of alcohol, but what it is about is not to consume alcohol if you are going to drive. For his part, Silvia Gonzáles pronounced: “We have been presenting this since the time Néstor Kirchner entered” and he said that until the law is achieved he will not visit his son’s grave. Now she is closer than ever.
