The YouTube channel that makes the most money in the DR is not urban

El canal de YouTube que más dinero hace en RD no es de urbanos

The YouTube channel that makes the most money in the country has more than 9 million subscribers and is an example of a global phenomenon

Readers without children may not have heard of the frog dance from YouTube. However, parents of young children will already be imagining the big-eyed purple toad dancing in the center of the screen listening to his incessant chorus. «Down, down, you turn and turn always down«.

Whether your kids watch it online or not, the staggering popularity of this video makes it hard to avoid. The audiovisual piece we are talking about has 1.7 Billions (yes, Billions. Specifically: 1,751 million 529,915 views at the time of writing this note). A total of reproductions that not a few artists of the urban genre or youtubers either streamers they would wish

The audiovisual piece we are talking about belongs to Cartoon Studio, a children’s channel with more than 9 million subscribers. And, to be more specific, it is the YouTube channel with the highest grossing in the Dominican Republic, with an estimated profit of 6.3 million dollars since its creation through native YouTube advertising, according to data from CashNetUSAwhich annually lists the biggest collectors of the popular video platform around the world and has already presented its 2022 list for the five continents.

Top Dollar Gross YouTube Accounts in North America, According to CashNetUSA

He cashnet study not only surprises by local revelation. It turns out that children’s content is the most revenue generating on YouTube globally. A multi-million dollar business based on keeping the kings and queens of the house glued to the screens in the most effective way possible, on a fundamentally free platform, with consequences that have not yet been measured.

YouTube is the world’s babysitter

According to the study, children’s content tops YouTube’s earnings charts in North America, most of South America, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, and much of Central and Eastern Europe, Jordan, Israel, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Mongolia, Australia, Turkey and Kazakhstan. Only in much of Africa are children’s programs not listed as the most lucrative channels. Globally, kids’ channels are more popular than gaming channels or channels dedicated to how-to videos, general entertainment, comedy, or animals, some of the other most popular types of content.

The research, conducted by CashNetUSA and social media data firm Social Blade, involved identifying the most popular YouTube channel in each country and estimating its all-time revenue using YouTube’s average pay per thousand views. (YouTube has stricter advertising rules for child-directed content.)

When searching on YouTube «Cartoon Studio«, the predictive search clearly completes the search term «Cartoon Studio RD«. The results show us several sets of animated videos with songs and playlists of up to 30 minutes. Banner ads from technology companies and children’s games often appeared in the content, augmented by sidebar ads.

“La Vaca Lola” is one of YouTube’s children’s hits. The Cartoon Studio version has more than 2 million, but the original “La Granja de Zenón” has 1.6 billion views.

How does it influence our children? (And will that be okay?)

Many parents have the same debate in their own minds, or with their partners and friends: Is it okay to let kids use screens, and if so, for how long? There is research on the question (for example, on how screen use affects sleep), but it doesn’t offer an easy answer as to exactly how much screen time is okay.

Recent studies suggestfor example, that “excessive” use of screens makes it difficult for children to regulate their own emotions and could encourage obsessive-compulsive behavior. But it also depends on what the child would be doing if they weren’t looking at a screen. If they’re missing out on physical activity, play, or social interaction, then the answer, clearly, is that screen time isn’t a good use of time. If, on the other hand, they would be ignored, bored, or frustrated, that’s a different matter. Children’s programs can be educational, teach facts, or model empathetic behavior.

Meanwhile, parents sometimes need to do things, like cook dinner, or require breaks to keep their own sanity in a state that allows them to deal with the high-energy task of childcare. That’s a universal truth, and a passport to success for the channels featuring animated children’s songs that rack up the most views.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that children under 18 months should not use digital media at all, apart from cameos on video calls. And that children under the age of five should watch less than an hour of “high-quality” television per day. Also, parents need to watch the content with them at the same time, which helps them to interact with them in creative ways.

Will all this be possible today with the increase in the daily bustle of parents and the almost native technological interaction of the little ones? Good for discussion in their houses.
