The XXVII edition of the National Film Criticism Workshop will take place from July 20 in the city of Camagüey.
“The Workshop arises in March as part of the commemoration of the foundation of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Industries and Art (Icaic), but this year, in coordination with the Provincial Directorate of Culture, it was transferred to July in attention to the improvement of the stage post-pandemic and to integrate it into the summer program”, said the General Coordinator of the Workshop, Armando Pérez Padrón.
“A look at the cinema of all times” is the thematic axis for the development of the theoretical exchange through the presentation of papers and Round Tables aimed at assessing the most important movements in the history of cinema, and the influences in Cuba and Latin America.
“We will be talking about expressionism; of the October Cinema and the Soviet school of the 1920s; film noir, both North American and French antecedents; of Italian neorealism, and of the French new wave,” he said.
“During the theoretical sessions, three books will be presented, in digital format, about the universe of cinema, among them, the four volumes of the Chronology of Cuban cinemaby Luciano Castillo and Arturo Agramonte”, he stressed.
The opening will be done with the film the rails of crime, from Costa Gavras; and at the closing, the National Film Critic and Research Awards will be presented.
Once the theoretical event is over, the cinema days will come with the projection of around sixty films and with special cycles aimed at children, young people and adults.
