At a press conference, the World Health Organization announced the end of the COVID-19 pandemic that is wreaking havoc in the world and forcing almost all countries to take measures to preserve the health of their citizens.
» The Emergency Committee met for the fifteenth time and recommended that I declare the end of the public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“Therefore, it is with great hope that I declare that COVID-19 is over as a global health emergency,” Tedros added.
Although he warned that although it will already be a global health emergency for us, we must not lower our guard “However, that does not mean that COVID-19 has ended as a threat to global health.”
He also thanked all his colleagues globally for their hard work over these three years “I want to thank the amazing people whom I have the privilege to call my colleagues. For more than 3 years, the people of the WHO have worked around the clock, under intense pressure and intense scrutiny.”
