Escobar, however, presented his proposal before the full chamber and there he maintained that his proposal is to include the name “president” – which is not established in his initiative – above political agreements in the Chamber and to “win” the proposal to the Citizen Movement (MC), according to representative Ivonne Ortega, coordinator of that bench.
“We had a political agreement, but here political agreements really don’t count. We had an agreement where we would upload the constitutional reform to modify article 80, to appoint a president, and today they tell us that the reform of various provisions of the Constitution, regarding plural language, brings up the issue of a president. For plural language it is el or la”, according to the emecist’s claim.
MC’s initiative for its part consists only of modifying article 80 of the Constitution to indicate that “the exercise of the Supreme Executive Power of the Union is deposited in a single person, who will be called president of the United Mexican States.”
However, in the session on Wednesday October 2nd, Morena also presented a third initiative, this one led by deputy Armando Corona Arvizu, to modify 26 articles of the Constitution and include “president” in them.
He even revealed that he was authorized by Sheinbaum to be the proponent of the reform initiative.
According to its proposal, the reform seeks to “guarantee the visibility and legitimacy of women in political leadership roles.”
“The election of Sheinbaum as president of Mexico is a powerful message that women can and should aspire to the highest positions in public life. “Her leadership inspires millions of women and girls across the country, demonstrating that gender should not be an obstacle to achieving the most ambitious dreams and goals,” she wrote in the statement of reasons.
