The interblock Together for Change of the Chamber of Deputies obtained this Thursday a majority opinion on the draft Wetlands Law in a plenary session of the Natural Resources, Budget and Agriculture commissions, while the ruling party, with the support of other minority blocs, presented a minority text.
After more than two hours of debate, the main opposition bench gathered 53 signatures, against the 47 of the ruling party, so the text originally promoted by the radicals Ximena García and Jorge Vara will be the first to be considered when the issue arrives to the enclosure.
With more emphasis on avoiding restrictions on productive activity, the majority opinion added the support of the deputies of the Córdoba Federal bloc; while in the minority, in addition to the Frente de Todos, Santafesino socialism and Buenos Aires identity converged.
The difference in favor of the JxC text was marked by the position of a dozen FdT deputies referenced in provinces with mining activity, who decided not to sign any opinion.
After the treatment in committee, the project was in a position to be debated by the plenary of the Chamber, which can consider it until next December 30, date until which the period of ordinary sessions was extended.
The Wetlands Law is a citizen initiative presented for the first time in 2013which has already obtained two half-sanctions from the Senate (2013 and 2016), but which could never be approved in the Chamber of Deputies.
