The violence unleashed in Mexico after the death of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CCJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes ‘El Mencho’, has also affected the development of Mexican soccer, which saw the Women’s Classic suspended for security reasons, between Guadalajara and Americaand the Querétaro-Juárez of the Liga MX, which was to be played at the La Corregidora Stadium, where in principle the Mexican team is scheduled to play a friendly against Iceland.
‘El Mencho’, 59 years old, died on Sunday when he was airlifted to Mexico City by federal forces, after an operation in the municipality of Tapalpa, 130 kilometers south of Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco (west).
The operation in that rural area led to an armed confrontation in which the military repelled an attack, resulting in seven alleged members of the CJNG killed -including the leader himself-, two detainees and the seizure of high-powered weapons and armored vehicles, including rocket launchers, according to the Army.
In response to the action, they began the so-called ‘narcoblockades’ in different parts of southern Jalisco, birthplace of the CJNGwith vehicles on fire and roads closed.
