A man was murdered this Sunday morning in the José Martí neighborhood, on the outskirts of Santa Clara, Villa Clara. Activist Jonatan López identified the deceased as Miguel Contino Moro, one of the custodians of the Celia Sánchez elementary school. According to her version, the murderers intended to “steal some televisions”, old computers and “even food” from this school.
López, brother-in-law of the political prisoner Andy García and exiled in Germany, added that the fact touches him “closely”, since his family still lives in that area and he studied in the primary where Contino was a security guard. The custodian “lived alone and was a friend to everyone.” The criminals, said the activist, attacked Contino with “a knife.”

Neither the authorities nor Contino’s relatives have ruled on the matter, and the newspaper of the Communist Party in the province – with its website out of service for months – has not reported the death on its social networks either.

López took advantage of his publication to denounce the police inaction in the face of the violence that is experienced in the peripheries of many cities on the Island. He mentioned some Police and State Security officers who reside in the José Martí neighborhood and demanded their participation more active in preserving the tranquility in the neighborhood.
