The waters go down in Pando and the tasks focus on cleaning and disease prevention

The overflow of the Acre and Tahuamanu rivers, in the department of Pando, it caused damage in the municipalities of Cobija, Bolpebra, Filadelfia and Porvenir. Of all of them, Cobija was the most affected, since more than five neighborhoods and three communities were flooded, affecting more than 500 families. A week after the events, the waters receded and the efforts to help the victims are showing good results.

The mayoress of Cobija, Ana Lucía Reis, reported that both authorities and officials from different institutions, as well as residents, intensify the tasks of cleaning streets and houses, after the receding of the waters.

“Thank God, we are in the ‘post-flood’, bthe waters receded, Now it is time to carry out cleaning and disinfection work in the neighborhoods. Many families have returned to their homes.That’s important,” said the mayoress.

“Today we share a pleasant breakfast with the rescue group of the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz, we take advantage of the occasion to highlight the important and laudable work they do. We are very grateful for the help they provide to the affected families,” said the authority, who highlighted the support of authorities from the Ministries of Defense and Health, as well as the Mayor’s Office of La Pazwhich sent two tons of humanitarian aid, in addition to the support of people from various sectors, such as the Red Cross Branch Pando, the UGR of the Mayor’s Office of Cobija, the Fejuve Cobija and the 2023 Promotion of the Defensores del Acre Educational Unit.

For his part, the adviser to the Ministry of Defence, Adhemar Valda, reported that the situation is under control and that it is moving into a phase of rehabilitation. He also pointed out that the relevant humanitarian aid continues to be sent.

“We continue to generate the mechanisms to deliver humanitarian aid. Five tons of aid have been delivered by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, In addition to the support of Ministry of Health and Sports”, said Valda.

The Health portfolio sent water purification tablets, portable chlorine meters, reagents for the determination of chlorine and Water purification envelopes for 5,000 liters.

In Cobija, six shelters were installed that gathered around 200 affected families.

“We are guaranteeing, with the Armed Forces, the cleaning of the houses that have been flooded. When the flood has come, it has brought remains of mud, garbage and plants. People are gradually leaving the shelters and they are going home. Little by little, normality is being generated,” Valda told Bolivia TV.

In turn, the gGovernor of Pando, Regis Richter, pointed out that the Government supported andn the transfer to the families that were affected by the flood in Cobija. “The Sedcam operational team and other areas of the Departmental Government made themselves available to the people with vehicles and human personnel so that these families can return to their homes,” Richter said.

Work intensified this Sunday in the gangster capital, where Lhe cleaning brigades entered the Mapajo, Junín, Villamontes, Puerto Alto and Cataratas neighborhoods, which were left covered in quagmire and fetid odors.
