Tigres moves up to fifth place with two wins and six points
América won a 1-0 victory over Toluca
The Tigres UANL defeated the Xolos de Tijuana this Sunday by 1-0with a goal by Raymundo Fulgencio and they came within a point of Puebla, leader of the Apertura tournament of Mexican soccer.
In a tight game, in which Tigres had a hard time breaking the rival defense, in the 78th minute Fulgencio scored one of the most elegant goals so far on the third day of the championship and gave the three points to his team.
The player rescued a rebound from the goalkeeper and volley hit the ball with his right leg to decide the match.
Tigres, who rose to fifth place, reached two winswith one loss and six points, one less than the leader Puebla and the same as Pachuca, Toluca and Monterrey.
A couple of hours before the Argentine Rogelio Funes Mori converted a penalty goal to give Monterrey a 1-0 victory at the San Luis stadium.
After a dirty first half, Monterrey went ahead and San Luis bet on the counterattack, however the two frames lacked aim and it was with a penalty that gave the victory to the Rayados.
Last Wednesday, at the start of the day, the Paraguayan Richard Sánchez converted a goal to give America a 1-0 victory over Toluca.
This Friday the Colombian Omar Fernández scored for Puebla, which drew 1-1 with León and confirmed as leader with two wins, one draw and seven points, one more than Pachuca, Toluca, Monterrey and Tigres.
On Saturday the champion Atlas won 3-2 over Cruz Azul. Ozziel Herrera, Jéremy Márquez and Colombian Julián Quiñones scored for Atlas, while Santiago Giménez and Uruguayan Christian Tabó did it for the Blues.
In the other duels of the weekend, on Friday Querétaro drew 1-1 at the home of Juárez FCthis Saturday the Chivas de Guadalajara equaled 1-1 at the Santos Laguna stadium and this Sunday the Pumas UNAM led Necaxa 1-0.
The day will conclude this Monday, when Pachuca will seek to move to first placewhich will get Mazatlan.
