The Venezuelan Film Festival returns to the theaters of Mérida this #17Jul

After two years of virtual format festival, the appointment with the national cinematography will take place between July 17 and 21. More than 40 pieces, including feature films and short films, fiction and documentaries, compete in this installment


The Venezuelan Film Festival (FCV) returns to its hometown, Mérida, this time at the Las Tapias Multicine. After two years of pandemic, which required that the appointment be online and the celebration of the fifteenth in Caracas, due to “the lack of resources, services and infrastructure” in the Andean region, returns to the City of Knights.

This year the festival It will reward fiction and documentary feature films, fiction short films and documentaries.

The Marathon Cine Átomo and Audiovisual University competitions will also be present in this edition; in addition to the cycle of conferences and conversations that frame the discipline of Visual Thinking.

Corpoandes, Parque Ciudad de los Niños Foundation and the César Rengifo Theater are other projection spaces. This time they do not have Cinex theaters, traditional ally of the encounter film.

The 2022 jury of the festival

Claudia Rojas, Jericó Montilla, Nicolás Azalbert, Pablo de la Barra, Tarik Souki and Nathalia Videla Peña make up the jury for fiction feature films. While for documentary feature films the verdict will be given by: Carolina Dávila, Ignacio Márquez, Thaelman Urgelles, Guido González, Mercedes López, Claudia Leppage.

Likewise, the evaluation of the short film competition – both fiction and documentary – will be in the hands of Marialejandra Martín, Iraida Tapias, Noel Márquez and José Luis Dávila Chacón.

The press jury is made up of journalists Crysly Egaña, Alfonso Molina, Luis Guillermo García and Leonardo Rodríguez Dugarte.

20 feature films, between fiction and documentary, will be in competition this 2022. Among them the debut feature by Nico Manzano, me and the beasts, which will premiere in Venezuela during the festival; after more than a year touring festivals, including: the Mar del Plata Festival (Argentina) and Tallinn Black Nights (Estonia); and the expected jezebel, by Hernán Jabes, a work based on the homonymous book by Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles.
