Venezuelan defender Nahuel Ferraresi will play for Sao Paulo until June 30, 2023, on loan from English Manchester City, the Brazilian club announced this Saturday.

The contract with São Paulo includes the possibility of extending the assignment for another six months, until December 31 of next year.

The 23-year-old defender is international with the Red wine and arrives at the São Paulo team after three seasons in Portugal, where he defended Porto B, Moreirense and Estoril.

The son of former Argentine player Adolfo “Pocho” Ferraresi, who spent much of his career in Venezuela, Ferraresi took his first steps in the world of football in his father’s native country, where he played in the lower categories of some clubs.

In 2017, he signed for the Venezuelan Deportivo Táchira and was runner-up in the U20 World Cup with his team.

A year later, Manchester City signed this 1.90-meter-tall central defender and loaned him to one of the teams in the group, Montevideo City Torque, from Uruguay. During that period, he was called up for the first time with the senior team.

In 2019, he headed to Europe. His first destination was the Spanish CF Peralada and later he ended up in Portuguese football.

With Vinotinto, Ferraresi played in the 2021 Copa América in Brazil and participated in several matches in the South American qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup, in which his team finished in last position, far from the qualifying positions.

Ferraresi “is a player for a sector that we need to strengthen and that comes with the experience of defending the national team. Talking with him, he showed a lot of desire to defend Sao Paulo, “said the president of the São Paulo club, Julio Casares, in a note.

Far from the top positions in the Brazilian Championship, Sao Paulo still has two title options this season.

The squad led by exporter Rogério Ceni will play the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana against fellow Brazilian Atlético Goianiense. And he is playing the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup against América Mineiro.
