The University Assembly declared the request for vacancy against the rector of the university inadmissible National University of Piura (UNP), Santos Montaño Roalcaba. This request was made after it became known that the university authority received 10,000 soles from an alleged bribe from the father of a supplier.
With 53 votes against, 3 abstentions, one in favor and one spoiled vote, the request for the vacancy of the rector of the UNP was declared inadmissible. In the meantime, the academic vice-rector Wilson Sancarranco Córdova will assume the role of acting rector for six months.
To this end, UNP professor Lucio Arana, who was one of the teachers who presented the request for vacancy, pointed out that the decision taken by the University Assembly is unrealistic, since they have hidden behind the criminal process, when the request for vacancy was based on the application of the university statute of the University Law.

“We have not asked for the application of the criminal process because that has its procedures and stages. What we have asked the University Assembly for is the application of the University Statute, the University Law and all internal regulations that have to do with the public official at two levels, one as the highest authority of the university and secondly as a university professor,” said Arana.
He also said that all the acts that the rector has committed have been explained “as a teacher, an attitude, an unworthy behavior that is duly established in the University Law and in the statute that declares that the teacher who ceases to be worthy ceases to be a teacher,” he specified.
Arana said that the Constitutional Court must now rule on the dismissal of the rector, “for having attacked the dignity of the teacher, his functions and responsibilities, and as a public servant,” he said.
