The joint venture (Education Workers Union) stated in a press release that, in the midst of the oppressive heat wave, the poor infrastructure conditions of many schools became evident.
The Union denounced the lack of investment in schools by the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and also the joint venture He demanded “dignified teaching and learning conditions.”
“Once again, in the face of a climatic contingency, the neglect and lack of investment in infrastructure in our city’s schools is exposed. In this case, the heat wave revealed the lack of operation and poor condition of the ventilation devices.“, indicated the joint venture in his statement.
The organization stressed that since July last year they had denounced that more than 200 schools have infrastructure problems and that despite this the corresponding works were not carried out, so now both teachers and students suffer the consequences of poor building conditions. .
“In the month of July of last year, from the Multi Sector for the Public School we denounced that more than 200 schools presented severe infrastructure problems in CABA, this is more than 20% of the total. In turn, we warned that this situation, far from improving, would worsen,” they said.
And they added: “Today reality tells us that we were right. No works were carried out during the summer and now the schools show an even more advanced state of deterioration”.
In this sense, they criticized Larreta that while “he repeated campaign slogans, thousands of teachers and students in the city suffered from high temperatures, reaching the point of having to suspend classes in many schools” due to the lack of conditions.
The convocation of the UTE
In response to your complaints and complaints, the Union summoned teachers, students, collaborators and parents to meet next Thursday, March 9, at the organization’s headquarters.
“For the reasons stated —and within the framework of the Multisectoral for Public Schools—, families, students, cooperators, and teachers from public schools in the city met to organize ourselves this Thursday, March 9, at 6:00 p.m. in UTE, Bartolomé Miter 1984”, they expressed.
And they added:We want decent teaching and learning conditions, therefore, once again we demand greater investment in infrastructure, guaranteeing access to fresh water in all schools in the city and the immediate repair and tuning of the ventilation devices in each one. If the basic conditions and rules are not met, it is impossible to carry out the activity in the school building”.
