The use of electronic money grew by 8.5% monthly and 13.4% year-on-year in February

The use of electronic money increased 8.5% compared to January and 13.4% in the year-on-year comparison and became the second month with the highest flow in the historical series that began four years earlier, according to a report prepared by the Link network. .

The document stated that “This impulse is explained by the also notable growth of non-face-to-face transactions at a bank window, as was traditionalto the point where it scored an absolute record index of 199.3 points, also prepared from nominal data and corrected for seasonality”.

The report noted that “Seasonally, February is characterized by a general decline in nominal activity indicators, as it is the month with the fewest number of days, in addition to sharing with January changes in the consumption habits of families due to the school break and summer vacations”.

In recent months, a notable growth of bank loans requested and channeled directly through the electronic means enabled by the entities stood out: they grew exponentially from January to February 79% in transactions and 27% in amounts, and with respect to a year before they rose 47% in quantity and 73% in nominal values, in this case equivalent to an increase in real terms of 13.6%, the report explained.

“This is associated with the more intensive use of wallets, since the number of transactions increased by 352% compared to the total of February 2021, and 740.2% in the total amount of money mobilized by this option by the group of the 7 .16 million registered users in the analyzed month, which constitutes a new maximum mark”highlighted the Link network.

Extraction orders also grew at a remarkable rate in February: 25% compared to the previous month, with just over 1.6 million, and in amounts 18.7%. While in relation to a year before, they registered increases of 128.8% and 154.5% in number of operations and amounts, respectively.

Compared to February 2021, the amounts of electronic money used in purchases through POS also increased, 20.9%; transfers between own bank accounts and those of third parties, 27.9%; among other; as well as various current operations, such as the payment of taxes; cell phone and transportation card recharges, among others.

At the end of the first two months, the use of electronic money increased 11% in real terms, a rate higher than that experienced by economic activity in general; even more so in the case of total transactions that accumulated growth of 35.7 percent, the Link report concluded.
