The President, Iván Duque, assured yesterday, after a meeting with the US Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, that Colombia and USA work together to prevent “external actors” from influencing electionslegislative and presidential elections of 2022.

Nuland and a diplomatic delegation from the White House participated in the High-Level Strategic Security Dialogue between the US and Colombia. After the meetings, Nuland, accompanied by the Undersecretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian A. Nichols, and the White House manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, Juan S. González, stressed that Colombia is “the main ally” of USA in the region.

In relation to the Colombian legislative and presidential elections of this 2022, Nuland asserted that Washington wants Colombia to have “a free and fair election,” therefore, it must be safeguarded from “external actors that try to put it in danger”.
“We talk extensively about the risks of external actors, authoritarian regimes and those who do not wish our democracies well, so we have committed to strengthening our relationship in different fields such as cybersecurity or in the world of misinformation, etc.”, detailed Biden’s envoy.
