Mike Waltz, United States ambassador to the UN, assured that maximum sanctions will be imposed on Nicolás Maduro to deprive him of resources. which he uses to finance the so-called Cartel of the Suns. His statements were given before the UN Security Councilwhere the issue of the blockade of sanctioned oil tankers in the Caribbean was addressed.
“The United States will apply sanctions to the maximum to deprive Maduro of the resources he uses to finance the Poster of the Suns, designated as a terrorist organization by the United States,” said Waltz.
Waltz reiterated that President Donald Trump made very clear his intention to use the full power and force of the United States to confront and eradicate these cartels of the drug. The cartels, in his opinion, have operated with impunity in the hemisphere for too long.
The meeting took place to talk about the situation in Venezuela and the military deployment in the Caribbean, where already three ships were intercepted tankers since last December 10. According to Waltz, these oil tankers operate as the main economic lifeline for Maduro and his illegitimate regime, and also finance the so-called Cartel of the Suns.
“Nicolás Maduro is responsible for using these resources and their benefits for (drug) trafficking to the United States. and Europe,” Waltz noted.
