The US returns to Cuba 82 irregular migrants in a new repatriation flight

Arribo a La Habana del cuarto vuelo de deportación en 2025 de cubanos desde EE.UU.

Miami, United States. – A total of 82 Cuban irregular migrants, including 74 men and eight women, were returned this Thursday, April 24 to the island from the United States as part of the bilateral migratory agreements between the two countries, The Interior Ministry (Minint) reported of the Cuban regime in its X account.

The group arrived at the “José Martí” International Airport, in Havana, aboard a coordinated flight between the two nations. This is the fourth aerial repatriation operation carried out from the US to Cuba so far from 2025.

Among the deported Cubans is Heydi Sánchez who Tejeda was arrested on Tuesday at the Tampa Immigration Office, Florida. Sanchez lived in the United States five years ago with her husband, who is a American citizen. She remained with a immigration status I-220b and a claim of her spouse. Both are parents of a baby of just one year.

With this new operation, the total number of people returned to the island from different countries in the region amounts to 450 in 15 returns executed during the year, according to official figures.

The Cuban government did not offer details about the conditions under which migrants were returned, or on their destination once in national territory. Nor was it specified if any of the repatriated will be subject to administrative or criminal sanctions.

Havana and Washington resumed in April 2023 deportation flights, mainly focused on people considered “inadmissible” after being held on the United States border with Mexico. In addition, they maintain a bilateral agreement that establishes that all migrants who arrive by sea to the US territory will be returned to the island.

Despite the anti -immigrant climate that reigns in the US, even some groups of Cubans try to cross the Florida Strait to escape from the Hard conditions of life on the island. In the midst of a context of food shortage, medical supplies and a serious inflationary crisis, many residents of the largest of the Antilles risk their lives to reach the American country.

Notwithstanding the current immigration crisis, for which almost half a million Cubans has entered the United States in the last three years, the program of parole Humanitarian launched by the Biden Administration in January 2023 (and canceled by Donald Trump after his arrival at the White House) contributed to decrease the flow of bsseros.
