According to a statement of the Department of State, the new restriction was issued in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation 5377signed in 1985 by then President Ronald Reagan, which suspends the entry of Cuban government officials and employees into the United States as nonimmigrants.
“These five officials are linked to the unfair trials, sentences and imprisonment of people who peacefully demonstrated on July 11, 2021. This announcement of visa restrictions responds to the actions of Cuban government officials who deny Cubans the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms,” the statement said.

“Once again the United States resorts to coercive measures against #Cuba as an act of aggression, with individual sanctions based on mendacious and absolutely unfounded accusations. They do not bend us, they only provoke our strongest rejection.
