United States government authorities in charge of prosecuting transnational crime and illicit drugs yesterday recognized Mexico’s efforts in the fight against fentanyl and other synthetic drugs, and warned that only with bilateral cooperation will there be success in strategies to prevent its illegal trafficking.
Katie Stana, director of the Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs at the United States Embassy, highlighted the Mexican commitment to implementing concrete and collaborative strategies, and emphasized that international alliance is the path to success in this shared fight.
Meeting of prosecutors
If we continue to strengthen our capabilities and share knowledge, we will be closer to building a safer and fairer future
said at the opening of the workshop Exchange of forensic and prosecutorial chemists in synthetic drugs, organized by the US embassy and in which authorities and personnel from the prosecutor’s offices of both countries participate.
Stana pointed out that the key to confronting these global threats lies in the implementation of technical plans, specialized training and coordinated actions between nations.
In the workshop, which has been taking place since yesterday in a hotel in Mexico City, he highlighted that the office he heads works intensively with the Mexican government to close gaps and weaken the financial structures of transnational criminal organizations.
In roundtables and presentations, the conference includes exchanges on advanced chemical detection methods, analysis of emerging trends and legal strategies to address the production of synthetic drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamines.
A central theme of the event is the Chemical Precursors Law of 2023, whose correct application can strengthen criminal investigations against criminal groups, the official explained. By uniting prosecutors and forensic chemists, authorities are seeking practical solutions that can be operated in both Mexico and the United States.
Stana dedicated words of recognition to the Mexican officials and underlined their leadership and commitment: Their dedication to confronting this global threat is an example of teamwork and leadership.
