The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, confirmed that the United States Army is installing a new radar in the country, near the coast of Venezuela.
The radar is located on the island of Tobago and has the objective of monitoring activities inside and outside the country, according to statements by Persad-Bissessar published this Friday the 28th by local media.
The prime minister noted that U.S. troops remain in the country and have been helping to modernize the airport and provide security in Tobago, even though she said Wednesday that the Marines had already left.
“The facility will help us improve our surveillance of drug traffickers in our waters,” said the prime minister, with a speech similar to the one used by Washington in this crisis with Venezuela.

His confirmation came after citizens reported seeing US Marines at a popular Tobago hotel and flight tracking platforms also detected military aircraft landing at ANR Robinson International Airport.
About 350 troops from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted joint training exercises with the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force from Nov. 16 to 21.

The US president, Donald Trump, warned this Thursday that his Armed Forces will act “very soon” on the ground against alleged “drug traffickers from Venezuela”, while the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, exhibited the muscle of his aviation and called to defend the territory.
