The lieutenant colonel of the Venezuelan Armed Forces, is being held in the cell known as the “House of dreams” in the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim), detained since March 2, 2018 and accused of leading Operation Gideon ; began a hunger strike on November 21: with this action he demands a visit on site of a commission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Marín’s mother to Maduro: “My son is in his hands”

In the morning hours of this Tuesday, the mother of Marín Chaparro, Nellys Chaparro, asked the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro to intercede so that measures are taken for the well-being of the political prisoner.

“Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, the life of my son is in your hands,” said Nellys Chaparro in a video that spread through social media. In the same audiovisual material, the mother of the lieutenant colonel reveals that her son is already showing signs of deterioration due to the hunger strike that began 50 days ago.

On December 19, the lieutenant colonel was able to see His parents because a senior official from the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence asked him to “lower the pressure” for the meeting to take place.

Marín Chaparro was accused by Diosdado Cabello, vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) of leading Operation Gideon together with the general in chief Raúl Isaías Baduel, who died on October 12, 2021, and the brigadier general of the National Guard ( GN) Armando Hernández Da Costa, detained since 2018 in the Dgcim.
