The parole humanitarian aid, which initially benefited the citizens of Venezuela, was extended to Nicaragua, Cuba and Haiti, in the midst of an exodus that, according to the digital newspaper Confidentialin 2022 it led 328,443 Nicaraguans to leave their country, of which 181,566 headed for the United States.
With this measure, the United States intends to welcome 30,000 migrants from the aforementioned countries every month, and reject those who try to enter its territory illegally.
To be benefited with parole humanitarian, the beneficiary must have a “sponsor” in the United States, who must take responsibility for his or her financial situation.
The Nicaraguan exodus has its origin in the sociopolitical crisis of 2018, when several armed attacks against anti-government protesters left, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), at least 355 dead, of which President Daniel Ortega recently admitted 300 after four years of insisting on 200.
More than half a million Nicaraguans have left their country since 2018, to settle in the United States, Costa Rica, Spain, among others, according to Confidential.
