The United States embassy in Havana has just issued a statement regarding the visit to Cuba by the director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, Ur Mendoza Jaddou, and the Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Rena Bitter, who were in the capital from November 8 to 10.
According to the statement, Director Jaddou addressed “the resumption of the processing of Cuban family reunification at the United States Embassy in Havana with officials from the host government,” and in those meetings “Assistant Secretary Bitter discussed consular issues of interest, including the resumption of immigrant visa processing in early 2023 at the US Embassy in Havana.
And then: “During her visit, Assistant Secretary Bitter informed officials that the U.S. Embassy in Havana will resume full immigrant visa processing beginning January 4, 2023, to include immediate relatives, preference family and diversity visas. She brought forward the resumption of visa processing for Y concludes: “He brought forward the resumption of visa processing for fiancé K at the embassy.”
And it concludes: “Undersecretary Bitter expressed her concern to Cuban officials about the human rights situation and urged the government to unconditionally release all political prisoners. Deputy Secretary Bitter’s visit also focused on discussing with host country officials the expansion of the embassy’s consular services and our work to increase, as conditions permit, diplomatic staffing and visa processing in Havana”.
