The US donates more than 200,000 Pfizer pediatric vaccines to Nicaragua

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) received a donation from the United States Government of 201,600 doses of pediatric Pfizer vaccine to combat Covid-19 in the Central American country. The delivery was made through the Covax Mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO), in coordination with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The United States embassy in Managua reported on this delivery of biologicals on its website and social networks. In addition, he points out that the outgoing ambassador, Kevin Sullivan, emphasized the work of USAID so that Nicaraguan children have access to drugs.

According to the diplomatic headquarters, the US government has donated 2.2 million doses of Pfizer injectables to Nicaragua to combat the pandemic. “More than half of these vaccines have been pediatric, which are intended for children between the ages of five and eleven,” says the US legation.

“USAID’s work has been fundamental in providing Nicaraguans with access to quality vaccines, including for boys and girls, to effectively protect Nicaraguans from the symptoms of the COVID virus,” said the US diplomat who will leave Managua. in the next few hours.

More than six thousand deaths from Covid-19 in Nicaragua

In our country, 92% of the population over the age of two already have the full vaccination schedule against COVID-19, while 96% have at least one dose, according to state statistics.

According to official Minsa records, the pandemic has caused the death of 245 people. More than 20,500 citizens were infected with the virus and 15,399 people managed to recover from the diagnosis.

The data on the disease in the country are different from the records of the independent Citizen Observatory COVID-19, which until July of last year had recorded 6,066 deaths from pneumonia and other complications derived from the coronavirus, in addition to 32,650 suspected cases. of infections, figures that the Government does not recognize.

Recently, the epidemiologist Leonel Argüello, assured about the reliability of the official data that “the best way to answer if the Minsa data is reliable or not, is to specify if the population is having access to the laboratory examination. If there is no access to the tests, we will continue with a large underreporting.”

On May 5, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised its highest level of alert on the covid-19 pandemic, which has left at least 20 million dead worldwide, considering that it is sufficiently controlled.
