The government of the United States of America maintains its objectives in Peru, and the fight against drugs is one of the main concerns. Although this year the figures have been encouraging, we should not let our guard down. That is why on Wednesday, December 10, the National Police of Peru receives new reinforcement to combat this national and global scourge.

Today three UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters arrive in the city of Pucallpa out of a total of nine that have been donated by the US. The PNP already has six of them, since the first three landed last May. By 2026, the complete crew will be available to Peru.
The agreement between the United States and Peru involves the gradual replacement of 24 Bell UH-1H Huey IIs operated by the Police Aviation Directorate (DIRAVPOL) in anti-drug operations. A spokesperson for the embassy in Lima told Perú21 that the Black Hawk is between 40% to 50% faster than the Bell UH-1H Huey II.
According to the agreement, the United States undertakes to support with maintenance, technical advice, a management information system (GIS) and training for the personnel who will operate the helicopters, as well as the transfer to the PNP of ground support equipment, tools and spare parts for these aircraft.
The Office of Anti-Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States Embassy in Peru has invested more than one million dollars to train more than 4,000 officials including police, customs agents and other specialists dedicated to combating organized crime and illicit narcotics, the North American spokesperson told Perú21.
MAINTENANCE OF THE BLACK HAWK
The maintenance of the aircraft of our law enforcement agencies has always been an Achilles’ heel, since it is common to report on helicopters or airplanes stopped due to the lack of spare parts due to their origin or improper use. From the embassy, when asked about this situation, they pointed out that the maintenance of the Black Hawk is guaranteed, and the “second class of mechanics and pilots are to continue”, as they have been trained by the American government.
As of November 27, INL’s cooperation with the (PNP) has contributed to carrying out 17,515 police operations; 10,590 arrests; the seizure of 13,800 kg of cocaine; 146,429 kg of cocaine base; the destruction of 92 clandestine runways; and 1,220 cocaine laboratories incinerated.
ERADICATION OF COCA LEAF IN PERU
According to information from the special project for the Control and Reduction of Coca Cultivation in Alto Huallaga (Corah) – of national scope, as of December 2, 35,374 hectares of illicit coca leaves have been eradicated in Peru. This is the equivalent of 324 metric tons of potential cocaine; or to give you a better idea, it is equivalent to almost 50,000 soccer fields or approximately the size of the city of Iquitos.
The Regions with the highest volume of eradication in 2025 were Ucayali (17,787 hectares), Huánuco (9,704 hectares) and Loreto: (5,408 hectares).
The goal established for this year was 34,123 hectares, which was exceeded. “It was an ambitious goal that, thanks to joint efforts, we have managed to overcome with determination and discipline,” Sergio Monar, executive director of the Corah special project, said in a statement.
PLEASE NOTE
The Black Hawk offers greater power, speed, load, range and safety in all parameters, unlike the previous model managed by DIRAVPOL.
Since 1982, the beginning of the Corah program, 483,000 hectares have been eradicated. of coca, equivalent in size to the Tumbes region.
