The US confirms two deaths in an attack on a “drug boat” in the Pacific

This is the ninth US attack against suspected drug trafficking ships since September 2, but the first in Pacific waters. Reports from the UN and other organizations have pointed out this route as the main route for transporting illegal drugs to the US.

A new attack by US forces occurred against a ship that was transporting suspected drugs, this time in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed the death of two “narcoterrorists.”

In a publication On social media, Hegseth indicated that the attack in international waters occurred on Monday the 21st in the eastern Pacific against “a ship operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization,” which “was transiting a known drug trafficking route and transporting narcotics.”

«Narcoterrorists who intend to bring poison to our shores will not find refuge anywhere in our hemisphere. Just as Al Qaeda waged a war against our homeland, these cartels wage a war against our border and our people. There will be no refuge or forgiveness, only justice,” said the US official.

Around 10,000 US soldiers, as well as dozens of military aircraft and ships, have been deployed to the Caribbean as part of the anti-drug operation carried out by the Donald Trump administration. To date, U.S. officials have offered few details about the identity of those killed in the attacks or which drug trafficking organizations they allegedly belonged to.

At least 31 people have been killed in US attacks on suspected drug trafficking ships, including a recent attack on a semi-submersible in the Caribbean. Two men survived the attack and were repatriated to Colombia and Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office later released one of the men, identified as Andrés Fernando Tufiño, alleging that there was no evidence or complaints about the commission of crimes in that country. The other man, of Colombian origin, remains hospitalized.

US President Donald Trump and his administration officials have repeatedly justified the attacks as necessary measures to combat drug trafficking organizations, several of which have been designated as terrorist by the United States.

News of the attack comes amid rising tensions between the Trump administration and the government of President Gustavo Petro.

On Sunday, Trump denounced Petro as a “drug trafficking leader” who is “strongly promoting mass drug production, in fields large and small, throughout Colombia.” He added that the United States will no longer offer subsidies to Colombia, which has historically been one of its closest allies in Latin America.
