Madrid Spain.- The United States government requested the support of democratic countries to continue denouncing the repression and imprisonment of the Cuban dictatorship against the people.
“We call on the international community to join us in condemning the regime’s human rights abuses,” US State Department Under Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols said Sunday.
As he had done last week, Nichols recalled that in Cuba “there are more than 550 political prisoners sentenced to more than 4,000 combined years in prison for expressing themselves freely.”
The diplomat, who has continued to give visibility to the situation of arrests on the island through the campaign #PresosPorQué? (Jailed For What, in English), via Twitter described this situation as unacceptable.

Also this weekend the United States Embassy in Havana denounced the nine-year prison sentence against the rapper Maykel Castillo Perez (Maykel Osorbo), for the alleged crimes of contempt, attack, public disorder and defamation of institutions, organizations, heroes and martyrs.
“The Cuban regime sentenced the rapper Maykel Osorbo to nine years in prison after his Latin Grammy-winning song ‘Patria y Vida’ criticized the regime,” the consular headquarters said.
