The US asks more than 250,000 Venezuelans to "prepare" to leave the country in November

The US government invited Venezuelans affected with the termination of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) of 2021 to use the CBP Home application if they intend to leave the United States

The Department of National Security (DHS) said Friday that the designation of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) of 2021 will end on November 7 and asked the beneficiaries to “prepare” to return to their country if they do not have another legal basis to remain in the United States.

With this decision, some 267,000 Venezuelans, whose amparo initially won on September 10, won a small respite thanks to the additional term set by the regulations, because the law requires that the Executive communicate at least 60 days in advance the termination of the TPS, so that the beneficiaries have options not to be irregularly in the country.

“If you are a foreigner and you are currently a beneficiary of the TPS for Venezuela under the designation of 2021, you must prepare to return to Venezuela if you have no other legal basis to remain in the United States,” the immigration and citizenship service (USCIS) said Friday in a statement.

The US government invited Venezuelans affected with the termination of the immigration benefit to use the CBP Home application if they intend to leave the United States.

The hope of staying of immigrants is in the hands of a federal judge of California who evaluates a lawsuit filed by a group of affected Venezuelans and the TPS alliance, in which they claim that the termination of the amparo by the government of President Donald Trump is illegal.

The legal complaint seeks to protect two groups of Venezuelans protected by the TPS granted by former president Joe Biden, those of 2021, about 250,000, and the beneficiaries of the extension of 2023, about 350,000.
