SLP, Mexico.- The House of Representatives of the United States (USA) approved this Friday, by majority, the H.R. 5349“Crucial Teaching of Communism Act” (CCT), proposed by the Cuban-American congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar.
The legislation seeks to guarantee access to quality educational materials “about the horrors of this bloody ideology,” according to the release issued by the congresswoman’s website.
“By passing my Crucial Teaching of Communism Act, the House of Representatives will ensure that future generations remember the pain and suffering caused by the brutal communist ideology,” said Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar.
“My community in Miami understands very well the evils of Communismand we must ensure that all Americans are aware of the death and misery it has caused. Their stories and memories will now live on in the minds of our youth,” he added.
I thank my colleagues from both Parties who came together to pass my Crucial Teaching of Communism Act.

CCT offers educational materials through the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, to help educate middle and high school students about the dangers of communism and totalitarianism.
This type of teaching would also warn new generations about the threat that these ideologies represent to the founding principles of freedom and democracy in the United States.
“More than 100 million people have died due to the tragic legacy of Communism. However, due to the lack of accurate educational materials, almost a third of members of Generation Z have a favorable view of Communism,” he stated. Salazar.
Eric Patterson, President and CEO of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, argued that despite the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, communist ideology remains in force in many places.
“Today, one fifth of humanity still lives under communist tyranny. Unfortunately, American students are increasingly unaware of the history and legacy of Communism. It is time to correct this error: the Crucial Teaching of Communism Act is a common sense law to ensure that our students learn the truth, past and present, about this deadly ideology,” he said.
The law is based on a survey conducted in 2020 by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation that found that the majority of young adults do not understand the true meaning and history of communism.
According to the survey, one in five millennials and one in three members of Generation Z have a favorable opinion of communism.
Last year, the House of Representatives approved a resolution that denounces the “horrors of socialism” and opposes its implementation in the US.
TOproven With 328 votes in favor and 86 against, it was promoted by Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar and Steve Scalise, Republican of Louisiana.
Through a statement, Salazar explained that “the approval of this resolution is a victory for anyone in the United States who believes in the power of individual freedom over the oppressive statism of socialism.”
