The US allocates millions of dollars to bad news about Cuba

The American leftist newspaper People’s World denounced that the White House allocates millions of dollars to the collection of bad news about Cuba and its dissemination within the island.

According to the publication, Washington gives money to a group of institutions so that they can transfer it to the real or imaginary Cuban opposition, both in the Caribbean nation and in other countries.

The journalist and political analyst WT Whitney Jr, in an article published in the media, explained that the receivers find or devise unfavorable information for the image of Cuba and spread it.

These are mainly associated with the complaints of Cubans about shortages, bureaucracy, low wages and coexistence with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The groups that transfer money from the United States to disgruntled elements in Cuba and elsewhere are key in this entire criminal operation, backed by the Helms-Burton Act of 1996, explained the activist and defender of the Caribbean island.

Interfering in the conduct of internal affairs in Cuba, the analyst commented, violates the norms of international law relative to national sovereignty.

According to Whitney, the National Endowment for Democracy is one of the two big facilitators of money. Founded in 1983, it is a non-governmental organization financed exclusively by the United States Congress.

That foundation is one of those that received large amounts of money from the federal government to intervene in Cuba during the year 2020, with sums ranging between 20,000 and 650,000 dollars.

The list includes 42 groups, among which are the Cuban Daily Association, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and Cubalex, and the total amount dispensed was 5 million 77 thousand 788 dollars.

The State Department’s Agency for International Development is another group that sends money to the counterrevolution, he explained.

On October 23, 2021, the website “Cuba Money Project”, by journalist Tracey Eaton, reported on the disbursements that USAID announced during the previous month.

The total delivered to 12 organizations was six million 669 thousand dollars.

“Washington – he said – has used the crudest methods to destroy the revolutionary government, ranging from military attacks, bombings of hotels, biological warfare, a strong economic, commercial and financial blockade. But nothing has had an effect.”

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), once offered a vivid characterization of a socialist society that lives under constant enemy attacks, the analyst recalled.

“They try to suffocate us for decades, but then they criticize us for the way we try to breathe,” Whitney recalled, paraphrasing the words of the late ruler.
