It’s official. The embassy of The United States withdrew the visa to travel to that country to the Police General, Victor Araus. On the afternoon of this Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the officer appeared for an appointment to which he was summoned by the representation American diplomat at its headquarters in Quito.
Upon leaving the appointment, the attorney for Araus, Diego Chimbo, confirmed the news. “Confronting power has consequences and Victor he is facing them. He was summoned to the Embassy and informed that his visa was canceled and that that can be revoked. We will reach the necessary instances to request the documentation. What is expressly mentioned is that (the decision was made) based on information that was delivered ”to the Embassy, he indicated.
Hours before, the general commander of the Police, Tannya Varela, led statements to the media. Before beginning his intervention, a police spokesman indicated that the journalists could not ask questions.
Varela referred to the statements of the US ambassador, Michael Fitzpatrick, on the penetration of drug trafficking in the forces of order and on the visa withdrawal to officers. He also used the expression ‘narco generals‘.

The four generals were not present at that press conference, including Araus, who were reintegrated into the institution after a court ruling.
Varela and other officials presented notarized copies of their visas to the United States. He also asked the Comptroller, the Financial Analysis Unit and the Superintendency of Banks to carry out “the examinations and audits of our bank accounts” and property of all the officers who have been promoted since 2016.
