Madrid Spain.- The Government of the United States sanctioned five Cuban officials for their involvement in the imprisonments and unfair trials related to the anti-government demonstrations in Cuba on July 11.
According to EFE, these officials, not yet identified, will be imposed visa restrictions as a sanction.
The announcement was made this Thursday by the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, through a statement.
The sanctions respond to Presidential Proclamation 5377, by which the US can suspend the entry into the country of officials and employees of the Cuban Government, the document specifies.
The statement denounces the regime for “denying citizens their basic human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
After notification of the measure, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Carlos Fernández de Cossio, wrote in Twitter: “The hypocrisy of the United States government has no limit with respect to Cuba. The sanctions announced today are, like the economic blockade, the tools of a thug, determined to break the political will of the Cuban people.”
The hypocracy of the US gov has no limit regarding #Cuba . The “sanctions” announced today are, as the economic blockade, the tools of a bully, determined to bend the political will of the Cuban people. #CubaForPeace

already in January Earlier this year, the US government had imposed visa restrictions on eight officials of the Cuban regime related to the repression of peaceful 11J protesters.
“These eight individuals include Cuban officials associated with the arrest, sentencing, and imprisonment of peaceful protesters on July 11. The US took steps to enforce visa restrictions in response to the Cuban government’s attempts to deny Cubans their freedom and rights through continued intimidation tactics, unjust imprisonment, and harsh sentences.
Due to the popular protests of 11J, the island’s regime has imprisoned more than 1,000 Cubans.
