According to the official, during the two weeks that have passed, after the implementation of the plan for Venezuelan migrants, irregular crossings “have been substantially reduced”, going from a daily average of 1,100 to about 300 today.

Likewise, the spokesman for the government of Joe Biden said that the Government of Panama “has also noticed a significant reduction” in the number of Venezuelan migrants who try to cross the Darién jungle, one of the most dangerous points on the journey to the United States. .

On October 18, the Biden government made official the new program that seeks to stop the arrival of Venezuelan migrants at the border, which plans to deliver 24,000 humanitarian permits to those who meet certain requirements and deport migrants to Mexico who cross the border from irregular shape.

The process to apply for one of the 24,000 permits that the US will grant to Venezuelan migrants is done online. Applicants need a sponsor with legal status in the United States who demonstrates sufficient financial resources to support them for two years.

Excluded from the program are Venezuelan migrants who have been deported from the United States in the last five years, irregularly crossed the border with Mexico, or irregularly entered Panama or Mexico.
