The United States, from enemy to collaborator

Estados Unidos, Cuba

Havana Cuba. – The logo of the United States Agency for Development (USAID) will probably be welcomed with euphoria by thousands of victims of Hurricane Ian in Pinar del Río and possibly throughout Cuba. The acceptance of only two million dollars in humanitarian aid shows the immense desperation of the Cuban authorities.

This Wednesday the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, dodged answering the awkward question about his government’s doublespeak about USAID, during a press conference in which he presented the draft resolution condemning the embargo that Cuba will present to the UN General Assembly. The Minister of Foreign Affairs deferred the explanation to the firefighters’ protective suits sent by the US agency after the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, whose distribution in the country has been questioned by human rights organizations.

The offer of collaboration by the Biden administration after the incident in Matanzas opened a new public chapter in the relations between both countries. He announced the request for help and the acceptance of what was offered by the United States to face the catastrophe caused by Hurricane Ian. He is not worth crushing the intelligence of others by repeating that “it is a timely measure, but insufficient.” Clearly, the Cuban authorities are hungry for more.

The regime hates USAID but accepts its millions: What does the Cuban foreign minister think?

The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, his entourage and the official media repeat the accusations against the United States every day to distort the claims of the Cuban people and the growing manifestations of discontent due to shortages, blackouts and the lack of human rights and freedom .

According to the official Cuban encyclopedia Ecured, USAID has developed “seditious and interfering” projects against Cuba and is in charge of financing the so-called “counterrevolution.” The Cuban government attributes the protests of July 11, 2021 and those that have taken place in recent months to operations led by the United States intelligence services with millionaire budgets from USAID and the NED and the complicity of the Cuban-American right.

However, the USAID logo has already been seen by Cubans alongside the island’s medical personnel in disaster scenarios in Haiti and Africa, for example. And soon you will see it on this Island too.
