The United States, at the forefront of Nicaraguan coffee exports

The United States has established itself over the years as Nicaragua’s main trading partner, all this despite the policy of verbal attacks that the Ortega-Murillo regime has maintained since coming to power in 2007.

The US embassy in Nicaragua published on its Twitter account a comparison of the purchase of Nicaraguan coffee that places it in first place with 235 million dollars, followed by Belgium with 70 million, Germany 37 million and Italy with 27 million.

“The United States is Nicaragua’s main coffee market — $235 million in coffee sales to the US in 2021 supported 45,000 small producers employing 350,000 people,” Biden’s embassy tweeted.

According to the diplomatic delegation, Nicaraguan coffee exports to the United States have grown substantially from 44 million dollars in 2005 to 235 million dollars in 2021.

Nicaragua has a trade surplus with the United States of 2,139 million dollars in 2020 or 17% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). “Nicaragua sells more than it buys from the US, creating jobs and economic growth for Nicaragua,” the US embassy in Managua highlighted on its Twitter account in recent months.

Russia and China the ones that buy the least

Despite the fact that Daniel Ortega’s regime tries to get closer to its allies Russia and China, these countries continue to be among those that buy the least from Nicaragua in Asia.

Russia and China appear at the end of the infographic, the Eurasian political allies of the Central American dictatorship that bought 4 million and 300 thousand dollars, respectively, in 2021, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN), cited by the US diplomatic mission in Managua.

Taiwan, country that Ortega rejected for allying with China, represented US$ 8,443,749.6 in exports (beef, farmed shrimp, golden coffee, edible offal and bovine viscera); however, they fell by US$ -9.2 million. Taiwan was the main destination in Asia in 2021 with sales in the order of US$ 85,709,882.8.
