The President’s Special Envoy donald trump said this Wednesday that the plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip begins its second phase, which involves the demilitarization of the Islamist movement Hamas.
“We announce the launch of Phase Two of the president’s 20-point plan to end the conflict in Loopmoving from ceasefire to demilitarization, a technocratic government and reconstruction,” wrote envoy Steve Witkoff in X.
The second phase will also include the creation of a 15-member Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with administering the Gaza Strip. The formation of this group was announced hours before by Egypt, a country that acted as mediator in the peace talks.
Phase two begins with “the full demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza, primarily the disarmament of all unauthorized personnel.”
“The United States hopes that Hamas fully fulfill its obligations, including the immediate return of the last deceased hostage. Failure to comply with these obligations will result in serious consequences,” Witkoff said.
