The EU promised 750,000 million dollars of energy purchase already 600,000 million in supplementary investments in the United States, according to the US president, who met with VON of the LEGen for an hour. The European leader was congratulated by the “good agreement, which will give stability and predictability” on both sides of the Atlantic.
“We achieved an agreement. It is a good agreement for everyone,” Trump told the press after holding conversations with Von der Leyen in his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland.
Von der read praised the skills of “formidable negotiator” of the billionaire and recognized the need to “rebalance” the transatlantic commercial relationship, which amounts to 1.9 billion dollars annually in goods and services.
Both valued the possibilities of reaching an agreement in a “50-50”, they told reporters before their meeting.
The agreement reflects parts of the United States with Japan last week.
“We agree that the tariff (…) for cars and everything else will be a direct 15%tariff,” Trump said. However, the basic type of 15% would not apply to steel and aluminum, for which a 50% tariff would remain.
The complete details of the agreement are still unknown. Ambassadors before the EU of their member states, visiting Greenland, must meet to ratify it.
The head of the Government of Germany, Friedrich Merz, celebrated that the pact “avoids a useless escalation in transatlantic commercial relations”, although he admitted that he had preferred a greater lightening of tariffs.
The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and her viceprimos ministers Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini also stressed that the pact “avoids a commercial war in the West of unpredictable consequences” and guarantees “stability.”
Trump, who seeks to reorder the world economy and reduce the American commercial deficit, has so far achieved agreements with Great Britain, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam, although its administration has not fulfilled the promise of “90 agreements in 90 days.”
Trump has periodically lashed out against the European Union saying that “he formed to fuck the United States” in trade.
