In a statement released this Thursday, January 12, the United Kingdom’s Minister for the Americas and the Caribbean, David Rutley, informs his country’s parliament of support for the AN-2015. “We take note of the vote that extends his mandate for one more year,” says the text, referring to the decision of the G3 parties to designate a new leadership in exile headed by Dinorah Figuera (PJ).
In a communication submitted to the UK Parliament and released by the official channels This Thursday, the Minister for the Americas and the Caribbean of the United Kingdom, david rutley, made public the position of the government of that country, headed by Rishi Sunak (Conservative Party), which extends its recognition to the National Assembly elected in 2015, as well as accepts the decision to appoint a board in exile. Likewise, the document makes it clear that “the United Kingdom continues to not accept the legitimacy of the administration established by Nicolás Maduro.”
Below the text:
“On December 30, 2022, the 2015 Venezuelan National Assembly voted democratically in favor of dissolving the interim government and the position of constitutional interim president held by Juan Guaidó, effective as of January 5, 2023.
We respect the result of this vote. We continue to regard the National Assembly elected in 2015 as the last democratically elected National Assembly in Venezuela, and we take note of the vote extending its term for another year.
It remains the position of the UK Government that the 2018 presidential election was not held in accordance with international democratic standards. The United Kingdom continues to not accept the legitimacy of the administration established by Nicolás Maduro.
We will continue to work with our international partners to encourage the parties involved to do everything necessary for the restoration of democracy in Venezuela, and the holding of free and fair presidential elections in 2024, in accordance with international democratic standards.
The restoration of practical and democratic institutions in Venezuela is essential and will help end the multiple crises that afflict the Venezuelan people.”
