The United Kingdom anticipates a new rise in hospital admissions for covid-19, according to the CEO of the British Health Security Agency, Jenny Harries.
In statements made today to the BBC, the expert pointed out that “what is seen now (in this country) is mostly an increase in the BA.4 and BA.5 omicron variants, which are really driving this current wave (of cases )».
“It doesn’t look like the wave is over yet, so we anticipate that hospital admission cases will increase. And it’s quite likely that they will outperform the previous wave of BA.2 (variant),” Harries commented, while admitting that “the overall impact” this will have in the future is unknown.
That prediction is “concerning,” Harries noted, “because it affects the ability (of health services) to treat other diseases (as well as coronavirus cases).”
The CEO of the aforementioned public body recommended that citizens “continue with their lives normally, but in that cautious way”, encouraging them to “wash their hands regularly, maintain physical distance where possible and cover their faces with masks in closed and poorly ventilated places.
