The Unitary Platform met with Gustavo Petro

The meeting with the Colombian government was attended by the coordinator of the Unitary Platform delegation, Gerardo Blyde, and other representatives of a sector of the Venezuelan opposition

The government of President Gustavo Petro and the Unitary Platform urged the government of Nicolás Maduro to hold democratic elections in 2024 in Venezuela in accordance with the rules of the inter-American system.

“It is time for a campaign for Latin America in the sense that what counts is democracy in the inter-American system,” said Colombian Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, at the conclusion of the meeting held on Saturday night, April 22, at the hacienda Large herd in Sopó (Bogotá).

The minister added that they hope that these elections will take place with all the rules of the inter-American system in 2024.

In the same way, he stressed that the International Conference on Venezuela is a search for solutions to unlock the negotiations between the regime and the opposition that is paralyzed, for which he hopes an agreement will be reached between Venezuelans.

“It is an agreement between Venezuelans that implies an electoral schedule with guarantees and lifting of sanctions in parallel. We are in a search for solutions », he indicated.

In this sense, he expressed that “it is an opportunity for the neighboring country. There is going to be a meeting of the same family that must result in democracy and clear rules of the game for all parties that want to freely participate in elections that naturally we cannot postpone, “he said.

The meeting was attended by the coordinator of the Unitary Platform delegation, Gerardo Blyde, and other representatives of an opposition sector such as Claudia Nikken, Tomás Guanipa, Stalin González, Luis Aquiles Moreno, Luis Emilio Rondón, Alejandro Mora and Roberto Enríquez.

Declarations from the Platform

In statements after the meeting on Saturday night and also presented in the joint statement, Blyde stated that they had had a “very good meeting with President Petro” and assured that it had been “very productive.”

“We consider it very important that a call comes out of that summit for the parties to return to the negotiation process in Mexico, which is undoubtedly the fundamental tool that our people have, to get out of the political, economic and social crisis that is plaguing them,” he said. .

The spokesman for the Unitary Platform also assured that it was important to highlight the international presence that will come together at the summit next Tuesday, April 25: “We applaud the initiative of President Petro, we thank all the governments that are going to send high-level representation to Bogotá for this meeting that highlights the serious problems that our people suffer, that highlights how these problems affect the international community, that shows that Venezuela requires temporary, quick solutions.
