The United Nations Organization (UN) highlighted Argentina among the countries that managed to provide solid responses with a gender approach; and analyzes the factors that allowed it, in its document “Government responses to Covid-19: lessons on gender equality for a world in crisis”.

The work summarizes the actions of governments to prevent further setbacks, recover the ground lost during the pandemic, and improve resilience for future scenarios; there he highlighted the strategies of the Argentine Government to cushion the impact of the crisis and recover the economy with a gender approacheither.

In addition to pooling unpublished global data from nearly 5,000 measures taken by 226 countries and territories in response to the pandemic, the UN analyzed the extent to which these actions across countries have responded to the specific challenges women faced and still face, exposes gaps in inequality.

Argentina was, together with Colombia and Chile, one of the few countries that actively promoted the re-entry of women into the labor market through wage subsidieswhich provide larger amounts to companies that hire women and other affected groups, among other measures, the paper reports.

Policies aimed at maintaining and improving the employment of women workers in private homes stand out, with programs such as Registered; and the construction of Integrated Centers for Womenearly childhood spaces at the local level in Argentina.

According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UN Women, these centers “can be a potential engine for a green economic recovery that creates quality jobs for womenyes”.

The National Director of Economy, Equality and Gender, Sol Prieto, represented Argentina at the event organized by the United Nations, along with a high-level panel made up of ministers, parliamentary leaders and representatives of civil society from all over the world. world.
