In June 2021, the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvado Delgado, signed the authorization for the entry of two citizens of Russian nationality – a man and a woman – who, it is now known, apparently had married in Uruguay under conditions questioned by the Senator of the Broad Front, Sandra Lazo.
In statements to The Dailylegislator announced that she will send a request for information upon learning that they were married in a supermarket in Chuy.
“We know that they got married here and that the mayor married them. It was something that attracted a lot of attention at the time and that now causes us much more concern, due to everything that is happening with the Astesiano case, “Lazo told the aforementioned media outlet.
The mayor in question is Eduardo Calabuig, belonging to the Colorado Party. He told the newspaper that he met the couple Olesia Dzhumelia and Andrey Kashtanov (those authorized by Delgado to enter the country) before the ceremony. “They asked me to marry them in a supermarket called Macro Frontera, but I have no connection with them,” he argued.
Dzhumelia and Kashtanov arrived at Chuy in early May of this year, along with one of the supermarket owners, a man with the last name Cardozo who is, in turn, a cousin of Calabuig’s wife. The merchant is also a Colorado militant and held the position of councilor in Punta del Diablo and La Coronilla.
He denies having a relationship
“He came with the Russians, but I had no more contact with them and I don’t know if they stayed in Chuy. It didn’t catch my attention because people ask to get married in certain places and we go. I have gone to inns and hotels to marry people, to Barra del Chuy, to homes. It’s normal for people to ask for that. Brazilians and Argentines get married here, they come from everywhere. A Venezuelan woman recently got married, ”the politician continued to tell the newspaper.
These two people are accused of being allegedly accomplices of Alejandro Astesiano, the former custodian of Luis Lacalle Pou, who was recently imprisoned for being the alleged leader of a large structure of forgery and sale of documents for the issuance of false passports, precisely to citizens of Russian nationality.
