The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) dismissed an appeal seeking to annul the 30-year prison sentence imposed on merchant Abdool Kamaludeen Ally Suárez, for planning the murder of Leomar José Gil Celis (37), who worked as manager of Pdvsa Gas Comunal in the state of Guárico.
This event occurred on September 2, 2019 in San Juan de los Morros (Guárico), specifically in El Campito alley, where Gil Celis resided. That day he was intercepted by Poliguárico official César Andrés Martínez Rodríguez (“El Macizo”), who shot him four times and fled.
The manager was taken by his family to the hospital in the Guariqueña capital and then to a clinic where he died two days later, on September 4.
The Cicpc investigations showed that Abdool Kamaludeen hired Freddy Tiapa and José Manuel Papanicolau (“Cara e’ Caballo”) to execute Gil Celis, because he restricted the sale of gas to private companies, because they increased the prices of the cylinders. Abdool was the owner of one of those companies identified as Morro Gas.
To carry out the murder of Gil Celis, Tiapa and “Cara e’ Caballo” in turn hire the Poliguárico official nicknamed “El Macizo”. The day after the homicide, Abdool Kamaludeen’s father, identified as Abdool Kamaludeen Ally Suárez (“El Guyanés”) makes the payment of $600 for the criminal act already carried out. That subject was also sentenced to 30 years in prison. And later his son Abdool Kamaludeen was charged with hitman and conspiracy to commit a crime, crimes for which he was found guilty and sentenced, according to the ruling of the Guárico Trial Court 2, San Juan de los Morros extension, issued on October 31, 2023.
On March 12, Accidental Chamber 153 of the Guárico Court of Appeals confirmed the 30-year sentence imposed on Abdool Kamaludeen. For that reason, public defender Elsa Singh Barbosa appealed this decision through an appeal that was submitted to the Criminal Court on September 12. The public official alleges that the trial court should not have evaluated the statement of the wife of the murdered manager as well as that of others because they were “reference witnesses” who did not observe the moment of the murder.
The magistrates reminded the public defender that the Criminal Chamber cannot evaluate (at this stage) what happened in the trial; For this reason, they dismissed the appeal and left the 30-year sentence untouched.
